Coke cancelled their “You’re on [Diet] Coke” campaign.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE. I saw it was like “NO WAY – SOMEONE IS GETTING FIRED”
They pulled the campaign, but I don’t think marketers are this clueless now. I think they know the message is manipulated in ways they can’t control, so they went for the “any press is good press” here? They need younger people who go for energy soda, etc….. so they went viral in that young people’s community as a joke, that reinforces the brand.
Is this subtle, sly awareness from marketing execs, knowing they would scrap it once it went viral, or is this total buffoonery?
Seeing the below makes it pretty obvious they knew what they were doing?
