A friend of mine nailed why I have been depressed lately, about the nature of friends, relationships, business, and how they all coalesce in social media: I feel like a huge walking $ Dollar sign. And not much more.
It’s incredibly depressing to be a human, which is little more than commodity – due to the broken drive of capitalism, driving anything and everything into the ground, even the people it relies upon. We’re not just products, like people have said. We’re nothing but a commodity, someone trying to sell you or sell to you. It’s stifling and lonely.
If this new “sharing” as renting economy takes off, we will need to rewrite the rules that underlie our economic structures. If that happens, GDP needs to measure a nation’s health and happiness, or we’re in trouble.
