Mind you this was sent to my fishbits, but I sort of love how “meta” spam is getting. It’s sorta why Google banked on Plus – it wasn’t a stab at a social network. It was a stab at being crutches for the ailing algorithm that kept getting beaten up by spam, and wasn’t smart enough to keep up. Â Now people create relevance along with the algorithm. Â But you know what? That reminds me of the start of life.
The accepted theory is, in some sort of muddy pit, crystals began to flourish. Â They were so excellent at life, they adopted tiny organic processes to facilitate ion exchange in a more efficient manner. Â The issue was that the organic processes were so efficient, they outgrew the crystals to become the dominant life form. Â It is suggested in many circles that life could evolve into crystalline intelligence that would function and communicate in ways that are equal to us, but beyond our comprehension.
That being said, I sort of think the algorithmic web is like that…. the semantic web is born from inefficient algorithms adopting human verification as a way to strengthen it’s vailidity…
Only to be surprised that it is eminently obsolete in a short time because the organic method beats the living bejeezus out of the inefficient, stupid method.
Upshot is that spam is always in front of the tools meant to beat it. Â The below wouldn’t trick us, but man – there are some people that would be reading that a 3rd time and going “hmmmmmm – maybe this time”.
I knew a gal in 2001 who was a PA in LA for some rich bastard that TOTALLY bought into the Nigeria scam, and she was all CSI looking for trace evidence, searching the web on alta vista or askjeeves for this confidence tricktser. Â ALAS – it wasn’t his real name! CAN NOTHING BE TRUSTED?
In the end, it’s been said before….. if it sounds to good to be true….
