I think this is fairly interesting…

An article from the Economist talks a bit about California’s current predicament, and the upcoming election. I am quite interested in this race, and have some personal opinions that I will not lay to bear….

But from the article, this struck me as interesting:

“There has simply been no “runaway spending”, reckons Steve Levy of the Centre for Continuing Study of the California Economy, based in Palo Alto. State spending spiked in the middle of the past decade, but has been cut by about 16% since 2008. This year it is likely to amount to between 5% and 6% of personal income, which is lower than it was three decades ago. Anybody who promises to solve California’s problems by simply attacking government waste should take note.”

Well… that’s a lot different than the Whitman attack ads would like us to think. In fact, if you peel away the ugly, calculated, cynical, and relatively offensive attack ads she is running, you realize it’s all hot air and spin. If the article is true, and there is no runaway spending, etc…. well frankly she has zero platform or message to us…. except cynicism and manipulative misinformation. I mean.. it doesn’t take much to trick the far right, but boy I hope us moderate conservatives can see through this ploy.

It’s amazing to me that our political system can take a brand new individual, and with the aid of endless money, create an incredible politician -which really doesn’t seem like a good thing.
