You know what? FB needs to open the network wider. I want this to be functional, which means a relative critical mass of interaction between friends, business, news, etc. When someone creates a FB that compartmentalizes all these into one single t…hing… they will win. It’s not enough if the majority of the interaction is tepid and meaningless. However, with you I only feel close to you. So there’s that. And I notice that there is a critical mass that is happening, creating a level of interactive commerce that wasn’t previously happening. I don’t mean page posts in walls, or FB meaning to compete with Twitter… Read more etc… but I do note an increase in brand traffic in general, and people identifying with and interacting with business, brands etc. The search function improving helps keep tabs on that too… so there is a depth being created that mimics the real world in a relatively consistent manner… which will make alll this weird e-stream stuff more accessible even for the most hesitant neophytes.

What I find most interesting is that the REALLY popular pages, save for the whorish celebrities destroying social media, is that brands are incredibly active. I think they realize what’s happening…. you need consumers to passively endorse your brand, celebrate it…. and get them to endorse the brand without really knowing they are advertising … Read moreso they might be capable of reinforcing it without the traditional forced media, pushed message model of old school “spam” (tv commercials, print or radio ads).

That being said, you are passively endorsing twinkies and that advertising is working on their behalf. The ideas of memes is frightening to me… what if information is the true living entity, and we are simply short term vessels for the information to pass through.
