Future of a social net

This is *JUST* the beginning of the social net. We’re talking like it is in it’s 1/2 of 1% – the start. FB is a disaster because it assumes we are emotionally constant beings that are like Atticus from To Kill a Mockingbird. Ideally, we treat *EVERYONE* the same, but it’s not practical. We wear different hats for friends, work, public, private, etc. My work friends don’t want to hear about DJ or art, my art friends don’t want to hear about hotels, my wife doesn’t want to see all my anti-consumer thinking. I know “groups” solves this a bit… but it’s not very intuitive or functional.

Eventually, these social sites will have transparency settings that overlay skins onto your profile – IE we will be able to switch from public to private, professional to personal. In the meantime, help me name that. Filters? Skins? I am not sure what it will be called yet – it’s almost like a saturation filter in stage lighting…. opaque, endless variables of color until it is the full spectrum of light. So it will be black (just you) shades of grey, through the prism of colors, to white (everyone).

I am drifting off here, pardon that.

Anyhoo… I think that makes sense?
